Marty Pursel was born February, 10, 1959 in Noblesville, Indiana and spent the majority of his childhood growing up in Danville. He graduated from Christian Academy High School in Clermont in 1978.
After graduation, Marty joined the U.S. Navy and spent eight years in the service of our great nation. During that time span, he married Sheila Wiora, and God blessed them with two daughters, Stephanie and Kimberly. After his service stint, the Pursel family moved to Martinsville, where youngest daughter Robin joined the family.
With Marty having grown up in a Baptist church in Avon, Marty, Sheila, and the girls attended the First Baptist Church of Martinsville. In 1994 Marty made the decision to enter the American Baptist Lay Ministry and to pursue a career in serving the Lord. Shortly thereafter, Pursel took his first ministerial position at a church in Paragon, Indiana, where he stayed for nearly seven years. He then returned to Martinsville and served the Lord there by teaching Sunday School and Bible Studies, including a study on false religions.
In 2003, Pastor Marty answered the pastoral call from the First Baptist Church of Amo, Indiana, to become a bi-vocational pastor. After four productive years at Amo, Pastor Marty began his ministry at the First Baptist Church of Young America in September of 2008.
Pastor Marty's desire as the pastor in Young America is to reach out to this community and beyond. His aspirations are to tell, to teach, to demonstrate, and to distribute the message of free Salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of His death on the cross, His burial in the tomb, and His physical resurrection from the grave for the sins of the world, we have access to that Salvation. It is this message that, if not told and not accepted, will separate those from God and an eternity in Hell.
